Muktinath holds significance for Buddhists as well, as Padmasambhava, the revered Buddhist monk, traversed through this region to propagate Buddhism into Tibet. At Muktinath, 108 sacred water spouts offer icy cold water for devotees to take a purifying bath. Adjacent is the temple of Jwala Mai, the Goddess of Flame, boasting an extraordinary underground blue flame. Muktinath is unique, being the sole place on earth where all five elements – Fire, Water, Sky, Earth, and Air – manifest in their true forms near Jwalamai Devi Temple, earning it the epithet of Sri Murthy Mahatmyam.
The optimal time for a journey to Muktinath is from March to June and September to November. During these periods, the weather is clear, offering a close-up view of the snowcapped mountains.
Muktinath is accessible in a day via helicopter through the Pokhara-Muktinath road or Jomsom route, reducing the conventional climbing route. However, despite these options, many individuals still choose the traditional climb to Muktinath. During the ascent, two distinct paths converge at Tatopani near the Kali Gandaki River.
